At Orange County, FL Rodent Pros, we know how to get rids of rats in your University Park area building for good. With our vast knowledge of rat behavior and building construction, we will inspect every inch of your house or building – from top to bottom – and find every possible entry point. Once we have permanently sealed up all the holes, typically with heavy steel mesh or metal plating that rats can’t chew through, then we can start the University Park rodent trapping process.

The best rat trap: Believe it or not, the tried-and-true, low-tech mouse trap (snap trap) – a simple piece of wood with a spring-loaded bar – is the most effective and humane way to kill a rat. Snap traps kill rats instantly, they are inexpensive and reusable, and they can fit in small spaces. Do not worry about the bait – you can use anything from peanut butter to fruit to – yes, cheese.

We service Orange and University Park, including the towns of Apopka, Altamonte Springs, Casselberry, Longwood, Heathrow, Lake Mary, Oviedo, Fern Park, Maitland, Lockhart, Winter Park, Ocoee, Winter Garden, Pine Hills, Doctor Phillips, Pine Castle, Belle Isle, the Conway area, and College Park. The northern end of our range is Deltona and Kissimmee makes up the southern end.

Rat droppings are small, dark, cylindrically shaped, and are about one-half inch to three-fourths inch long with blunt ends. The most commonly found rat pest in United States is the Norway rat (Rattus norvegicus). Roof rats are likely to found in coastal, near-coastal areas and port cities. I highly recommend snap traps, not live cage traps, certainly not glue boards, and most definitely not poison! Never poison rats, it doesn't solve the problem and it just creates more problems. A mouse's tracks will be much shorter. If you've sealed the house correctly, then you shouldn't trap any new rats after just the first three days. Rats rely more on their keen senses of smell, taste, touch, and hearing than on vision. Exclusion is an important rodent control technique.

Having completed the repairs to wires, and possibly vacuumed feces or replaced insulation (not usually necessary) fumigate the attic to kill any remaining parasites or spores from the rats. In most instances, rats are very wary. In residences where rats may be living in the attic and feeding outdoors, the damage may be restricted to tearing up insulation for nesting or gnawing electrical wiring. Where an entire warehouse may be fumigated for insect control with a material such as methyl bromide, all rats and mice that are present will be killed. Cage trapping is often considered to be the most humane way of dealing with an animal problem, and certainly when it comes to larger animals it is fair to say that it can be effective. ALWAYS USE RESPIRATORY PROTECTION WHEN REMOVING RODENT DROPPINGS. In some situations in which the rats have been eliminated, cats that are good hunters may prevent reinfestation. Control of roof rat damage in agriculture represents yet another scenario.

In food-processing and food-storage facilities, roof rats do about the same type of damage as Norway rats, and damage is visually hard to differentiate. Check the repairs you've done, to make sure no new areas have been chewed open. Elsewhere, reports indicate that roof rats are slowly disappearing from localized areas for no apparent reason. The whiskers and guard hairs enable the animals to travel adjacent to walls in the dark and in burrows. Caution should be taken to avoid trapping nontarget species such as tree squirrels. Roof rats entering homes are generally found in raised or secure enclosures such as walls, cabinets, attics, and false ceilings. Rats leave the attic during the night, to go out and forage for water and food. For more detailed information, see Rodent-proof Construction and Exclusion Methods.
